Singapore Airlines considers developing low cost long haul flight technology with Boeing and Airbus - Lianhe Zaobao, page 8
Singapore Airlines is considering to develop low cost long haul flight technology with two major airplane manufacturers to re-launch direct flights to the United States. Previously, these flights were made with aircrafts with four engines. Director of NTU Air Traffic Management Research Institute (ATMRI) Dr Hsin Chen Chung said: “An aircraft with four engines consumes more fuel and incur less economic benefits. As operating costs are higher, we will see fewer of such aircrafts in future.” He said that long haul flights by the latest Airbus 350 XWB and Boeing 787 do show high fuel efficiency.
