The rapid, accelerating proliferation of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) for commercial, public service, and leisure applications will continue in the coming years. However, since the available airspace is finite, there is a need to ensure that this limited resource is used efficiently and safely while reaping the maximum benefits as technology advances and applications diversify.
Traffic management of UAS is a critical enabler for UAS operations. Successful development and deployment of UAS traffic management will allow us to capture the greatest possible value and benefits from UAS applications as the industry innovates. Currently, there is a need to envisage the future operating environment of the airspace for diverse UAS applications, create and articulate the operating concepts, and facilitate the maturing of the technologies to create a positive ecosystem for UAS operations in Singapore. Hence, the programme on “Traffic Management of UAS - Enabling Efficient and Safe Operations in Urban Environment” is proposed.
