In view of the AirAsia flight QZ8501 incident, how should countries ensure aviation safety?
Dr Hsin Chen Chung, Director of the Air Traffic Management Research Institute at NTU, said that the current plane structure’s ability to withstand thunderstorms is much better compared to the past, but there is always a possibility of a huge thunderstorm that could damage the plane. The Air Traffic Management Research Institute provided statistics to show that air traffic in the Asia-Pacific region has the highest growth globally. Dr Hsin said that there should be a balance between airspace capacity and passengers’ demand. Authorities also have to look at other ways and infrastructure that complement radars in aviation safety.
